Weston Recycled 30 Percent of Waste in FY12

The town recently released its fiscal year 2012 Solid Waste & Recycling Report.

The kept up with its annual average of recycled waste during this past fiscal year, according to figures recently released by the Department of Public Works.

The station recycled 30.71 percent of its waste during fiscal year 2012, which is the period between July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, according to the fiscal year 2012 Solid Waste and Recycling Report.

The town took in 3,595.67 tons of waste, and recycled 1,523.03 tons. (The recycled percentage does not take into account yard waste.)

Bob Hoffman, director of Public Works, said the figures were typical.

“It’s been kind of level the past few years,” he said.

Of the 3,800 properties in Weston about 1,800 use the transfer station. The rest use private pickup services, according to Hoffman.

The “total processed” trash cost to the town was $237,078.76, according to the report.
