Weston Town Meeting Recap: Case's Corner Roundabout Fails

Weston Town Meeting resumes on Wednesday, May 13.

Last night's Weston Annual Town meeting had voters approve funding for the design of a new police station but reject a proposal for a roundabout at Case's Corner.

This is Town Moderator Wendy Spector's final town meeting. She is leaving office.

Article 1: To ratify the May 11 annual town election. Results read.

Article 2: To approve the fiscal 2014 budget -- In total, it is $70,400,482, a 3.6 percent increase from the fiscal 2013 budget. -- APPROVED BY MAJORITY.

Article 3: Appropriate fiscal 2014 water enterprise budget ($2,968,296) -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

Article 4: Appropriate fiscal 2014 recreation enterprise budget. ($1,673,077) -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

Article 5: Appropriate fiscal 2014 Brooks School Apartment enterprise budget. ($1,113,955) -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. 

Article 6: To move $250,000 into the town's savings (stabilization) fund -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. 

Article 7: Appropriate $1.6 million to the post employment benefits fund -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

Article 8: Whether to approve town revolving funds -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

Article 9: To accept state funding (Chapter 90) road repair funds -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. The final funding figure has not yet been approved by state lawmakers.

Article 10: To approve property tax deferral income limits at $70,000 -- APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. 

Article 11: To appropriate $110,000 to the Weston Media Center. APPROVED. 

The money would be used to maintain operations, create a DVD archive and cover additional municipal meetings. 

Article 12: To appropriate $1.2 million ($800,000 from the town budget and $400,000 left over from the Department of Public Works building project.)  for the design of a new police station. APPROVED. Vote count: YES: at least 72 NO: 36

Article 13: To appropriate  $709,000 for various types of work at the Case Campus, including road, sidewalk improvements. It would also include widening of Alphabet Lane to meet town standards. It would also help improve emergency vehicle access. APPROVED. 

Article 14: To appropriate $709,000 for a roundabout at Case's Corner. FAILS

Weston Town Meeting will resume on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Weston High School.
