LETTER TO THE EDITOR: 'I Wanted to Reach Out to RCCC's Families'

The Regis College Children's Center is closing, and this parent suggests an alternative.

By Beginnings School parent Molly Brenner

I was surprised as everyone by the announcement that the Regis College Children’s Center (RCCC) is closing. I have a number of “mom friends” that loved the program, and after reading the Weston Patch article (5/1/2014) and Kristie Zaccagnino’s comments, I wanted to reach out to RCCC families. As a full-time, working mom who moved across country with a 9 month old, I know the anxiety of finding that perfect place for your child under clear time constraints. Please consider the Beginnings School in Weston as a great option. My daughter attends now, and my son “graduated” last year.

My family and I love school for so many reasons - the amazing teachers and staff, the beautiful facility and school grounds (including a garden, huge playground and field), the breadth of care provided (infant to K), the diversity of experiences offered (Spanish, mandarin, yoga, hip-hop and Super Soccer Stars), and inclusion of academics as part of play. Further, Beginnings is uniquely focused on teaching the fundamental skills of social and emotional intelligence, the critical building blocks for academic and social success.

Beginnings is a nationally accredited (NAEYC) school that was founded in 1985 by clinical psychologist Dr. Donna Housman. The administration has already reached out to RCCC to see how they might be able to help and is still accepting new student applications for the 2014-2015 school year. I know that the Beginnings staff would be happy to meet with RCCC families personally, and give them a guided tour.

They can be reached at 781-891-1011 or info@beginningsschool.com. When you visit, feel free to ask for my contact information. I’d be happy to give you a “real” parent tour. Change is hard, and you and your family may just love Beginnings, too.
