Schools Seeking Input on Proposed Academic Calendar

The superintendent and School Committee are looking for feedback on a proposed 2012-2013 academic calendar.

The proposed academic calendar for the 2012-2013 was displayed at Monday night's School Committee meeting, though no vote was taken.

Just as people were getting used to the idea of starting before Labor Day, joked School Superintendent Cheryl Maloney, the proposed '12-'13 calendar would have school start on Wednesday, Sept. 5, which is after Labor Day.

The main reason for a delayed start would be construction at the high school of renovated classrooms and possiby the proposed new science labs, said Maloney.

"[The school is] supposed to be ready mid-August; I would rather prepare for that not being the case," she said.

This would mean that the last day of school, assuming no snow days, would be June 20, 2013.

The School Committee is looking for parental feedback on this issue before it votes on a final calendar at its Nov. 7 meeting. Maloney encourages parents to email her or speak with their PTO leaders.

A copy of the proposed calendar is available on the schools' website link above, or at right.
