Weston Schools Announce New Director of Student Services

Superintendent Cheryl Maloney "excited" about selection.

The new director of student services for Weston Public Schools has been selected, a candidate Superintendent Cheryl Maloney said she and other administrators are "very excited" about.

Susan Strong was chosen to begin her new position next summer after a search process that lasted for several months and involved a committee that screened about 10 candidates, said Maloney.

Strong's primary responsibilities in her new role will include overseeing Weston's special education department as well as all nurses and guidance counselors, and the English language learner program, said Maloney.

"We're very happy about having (Strong) as a leader in our district and seeing her take on the challenges of the position," said Maloney.

According to a statement on the Weston Public Schools website, Strong will come to Weston from Gulfport, Fla., where she has served as team leader of Student Support Services since 2011. Previous positions include serving as the principal at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School in Lenox, Mass., from 2008-2011; as principal and director of Housatonic Academy in Pittsfield, Mass., from 2007-2008; and as director of student services/director of special education for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District in Pittsfield, Mass., from 2000-2007. Strong earned a master's degree in administration from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. and a bachelor of arts in elementary education from Westfield State College and is presently completing a Ph.D. program in school counseling at Nova Southeastern University.

Strong will begin her new position on July 1, 2012 but is anticipated to begin her transition before that date.
