What Do You Think About Weston’s Ranking in the Best Schools List?

Boston Magazine released the list, which shows Weston students are in the top five for overall SAT scores, but the schools didn't finish that high in the overall list.

The Weston Public Schools ranked 11th in the Boston Magazine Best Schools list in the September 2013 issue.

Weston ranked behind the top 10 of:

  1. Dover
  2. Sherborn
  3. Lexington
  4. Carlisle
  5. Boxborough
  6. Concord
  7. Lincoln
  8. Westford
  9. Wayland 
  10. Wellesley

According to Boston Magazine, Weston ranked fourth for highest overall SAT scores with a total of 1,853. Wellesley topped that category with 1,885.

Boston Magazine also reported that Weston has the largest average class size of any of the Top 50 Best Schools with 22.6 on average.

Other Weston statistics reported by the magazine include:

  • Graduation rate – 96.6 percent
  • Percent going to college – 85.1 percent
  • Per pupil expenditures -- $19,352 (only Lincoln has higher per-pupil expenditures in the Top 50 list, according to the report)
  • Percentage scoring 3-5 on AP exams – 79.2 percent

According to the magazine:

“To assemble this year’s Best Schools list, we spent months compiling numbers—released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education—from 147 municipalities in Greater Boston.

"The schools in the cities and towns that topped our proprietary ranking stood out across 20 different categories, including student-to-teacher ratio, average class size, expenditures per pupil, rate of college matriculation, and results on tests such as the SAT and the MCAS.”
