The Brookline High rugby team is headed to the Massachusetts Rugby Championships this weekend. The Warriors finished the regular season with a strong 4-1-2 record, defeating Lincoln-Sudbury 25-5 in the recent finale.
“[Brookline] has always had a good reputation in rugby and is regarded as one of the top teams,” said second-year coach Owen Cahill, who played rugby at University College Dublin, and for Old Belvedere, a Division 1 club team in Ireland.
For those not familiar with the game, rugby is similar to American Football in that the object is to get the ball past the opponent’s goal line. Instead of a touchdown, the score is called a “try” and is rewarded with five points instead of six.
Brookline also defeated Marshfield, Catholic Memorial, and Bishop Hendricken this season.
