Reason for riding: To honor friends and family — mine and those of my friends and donors — who have faced cancer. I carry their names, pictures and stories with me on the ride. You can see the Pinterest board I created this year.

Training tip: Interval training, especially on hills, is really efficient. Still, you have to spend time in the saddle to be comfortable for the six hours it takes to ride 110 miles on day one.
