Weston Boys Soccer Falls to Lincoln-Sudbury

The Wildcats lose 5-0 to L-S.

The Weston High School boys soccer team’s season is slip sliding away.

Sustaining their fourth consecutive defeat, the Wildcats fell 5-0 to Lincoln-Sudbury Wednesday afternoon and dropped to 2-6 on the season.

“We’ve been playing a lot. We’ve had a lot of injuries,” said Weston coach Tom McEnery “But that just making excuses. We’re a full squad; we’re a full team. Every one is putting in a lot of effort in practice. I think we’ve come up short in a couple games due to our lack of finishing.”

For Wednesday’s affair, the coach found fault with his team’s sluggish start.

“It just disappointing for me that we only really showed our passion once we were down,” he said. “We should always want the ball. We should always be as passionate.”

The Warriors, meanwhile, improved to 6-0-1 with the victory.

“They have a lot of guys who can play and who are athletic,” said L-S coach Dave Hosford. “They gave us fits at times. When we were trying to move the ball on the ground, they were anticipating that. We got some sloppy goals that I guess was lucky, which puts you in better position to play a little more loosely and freely.”

Weston managed to contain L-S in the first half with the Warriors netting only a lone goal. That arrived when Forest Sisk hit a strike near the penalty area at the 27-minute mark.

But the Warriors would garner a second tally just seven minutes into the second half as Sisk booted a free kick towards net. Wildcat keeper Michael Gannon blocked the shot, but was unable to secure the ball, allowing Ryan Bassinger to bury the rebound.

Playing from behind, Weston kept only three defenders back resulting in more potent offensive chances for L-S. The Warriors remaining goals came from Malcolm Joseph, Andres Driscoll, and Bassinger’s second of the day.
