Weston Girls Soccer Fall To Bedford

The Wildcats lose 2-1 to Bedford High School.

Unable to play to its full potential, the Weston High School girls soccer team lost to Dual County (Small) League foe Bedford, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s disappointing because it’s us letting teams in games rather than teams coming here playing well,” said Weston coach James Blackwell. “We didn’t defend properly—two soft goals. And then we got one back, but we couldn’t get the second one back. Again, it’s us, not them. It’s us being poor and giving them opportunities.”

Although the loss drops their record to 7-5-2, the Wildcats have already secured their postseason bid, and still have a chance at the DCL (Small) title with two league games remaining.

In Tuesday’s affair, Weston fell behind early as Kristen Baratta dribbled the ball to the left corner, turned, and kicked it to the front of net. Sarita Biswas was there to bury the ball left side giving Bedford the 1-0 advantage eight minutes into the contest.

Seven minutes later, Bedford would cushion its lead when Meredith Brady booted a perfect corner kick into the box where Baratta placed the touch on the ball sending it into the net.

The Wildcats had sporadic scoring opportunities to start the second half, but none found their target. Weston finally was able to crack the egg shell when Bedford was called for a push in the box. Maddie Linde capitalized drilling the penalty shot left side, but that was the only offense the Wildcats could muster.

“We tried to play a little bit,” said Blackwell. “Bedford just had a direct style of play that disrupted it. We just couldn’t get our rhythm going. Every time they had the ball, they just went long with it and then we were defending.”
