Great Senior Night for Weston Girls Soccer

WGVS wins senior night game against Wayland last Friday 1-0.

Last Friday, Weston Girls Varsity Soccer celebrated their senior player's last home game under the lights. It was chilling to see my teammates receiving their roses in tribute to the quickly ending fall season- the last of our high school career. The boys varsity soccer team distributed the roses in this traditional ceremony. Mother and fathers of the players gathered on the track as tears were being held back.

All the seniors started the game on Friday, and they were able to bring a 1-0 victory over the warriors.

Alissa Duffey had three saves and the team had eight shots on goal.

With three minutes to go, junior Maddie Linde was able to dangle the defenders and goalie for a sole-goal that put Weston ahead. The pass to her was given from freshman Lane Cronin, who fearlessly faught up the entire length of the field to feed Linde's goal.

Upon scoring, the Weston High School Spirit Squad, founded by senior Gage Hartman and me went crazy. I swear the entire town could have heard our "Oh-lay-oh-lay-oh-lay-oh-lay" chant.

Coach James Blackwell said, "It was a good evening, it was well supported by the high school, the town, the varsity players parents and the boys soccer team. It was nice for the seniors to get recognized, we are lucky to have a group of hard-working, dedicated seniors. They set a good example for the underclassman. The girls were superb in the game. It was a great finish from Maddie but I was impressed with the application and effort of the whole team today, We dominated for long periods and we fully deserved the win."

This was an inter-generational night as well, as the Weston Middle School girls' soccer team was present and very active in the night's fluidity. They were escorts for players on both teams, water-girls, and the ever-important ball girls on the sidelines. It was truly special to see these girls take part in Friday's spectical.

Weston girls soccer continues in the last week or two of their season and hopefully they'll bring in more big wins like this one.

Congratulations WGVS and best of luck in the post-season!
