What Are You Thankful For?

Thanksgiving now past us, what do we take away?

With many of us one pants size bigger and grocery lists now properly recycled, Thanksgiving passes us by as we move on to the next gluttonous holiday. Among the many memories that are left are of family bonding over inside jokes or big brothers coming home to their mothers. Others will remember the jabbing fight for the last piece of pie, or the stove top that just couldn't fit any more if it wanted to.

So what else do we take away? In my household, it wouldn't be the same without the cliche "What are you thankful for?" survey question that passes around the heavily stacked dining room table. (Which in reality, became more like a dining-room-into-living-room-extending table fitting 32 for sit-down turkey eatin'!)

So when asked that question, what do I say? To start, maybe the education that I have been given that tells me that the title of this article is grammatically incorrect. Or the clothes, home, car ... everything that I am fortunate enough to have. The list goes on and on.

So, for what are you thankful? For some people like Weston High School senior Brendan Eappen, Thanksgiving has brought a opportunity to reflect on the fortunes we have in order to give back to others less fortunate in the world. His new school initiative to fight world hunger, Feeding Frenzy, recently launched and donations are greatly appreciated. So as more and more holidays roll our way, turn that calender page with more reflection on how you've changed as a person. Time is for changing. Make the best of it as we move into a season of giving and a brand-new year!
