Recent Weston Police Logs: DUI Crash Arrest

Wednesday, May 15 10:53 a.m. -- Suspicious motor vehicle on Highland Street. Services rendered. 3 p.m. -- Burglary on North Avenue.  11:46 p.m. -- Gregory Carlson, 30, of Weston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (fourth offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene after property damage, a marked lanes violation and speeding. He was allegedly involved in a crash and left the scene. The incident is under investigation.  Thursday, May 16 4:11 a.m. -- Burglary from a motor vehicle on Warren Avenue.  10:25 a.m. -- Dog complaint on Church Street. Not Really a Fair Trade Newton Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Beacon Street. According to police reports, the vehicle's owner said he parked his Subaru station wagon in the driveway the night before, leaving the doors unlocked and the keys under the driver's side floor mat. Should DUI Alcohol Limit Be Lowered To 0.05 Percent?

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.

One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, May 14 the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. There were 114 DUI fatalities in Massachusetts in 2012, which were 34 percent of traffic-related fatalities last year, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.What do you think? …

The Music Was Not Loud Enough... A Burlington man was arrested on May 5 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in Newton Corner. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Centre Street for reports of a male party asleep behind the wheel of a red Mercedes. When officers arrived, they found the car stopped at the traffic signal, just before the on-ramp to the Mass Pike. Reports said the driver was asleep behind the wheel with the doors locked and loud music playing. The vehicle was running and in neutral. Weston Police Department Welcomes New Officer

The Weston Police Department announced its newest patrolman on its Facebook page.

The Weston Police Department this week welcomed 26-year-old Drew Gribbons as its newest patrolman. According to the Weston Police page on Facebook, Gribbons grew up in Auburn, Mass., and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at Holy Cross. He has served as a part-time officer with past several years as a part time police officer on Martha's Vineyard and with the Town of Webster Police Department. Gribbons graduated last month from the Worcester Police Academy, the announcement reads, and will spend the next 12 weeks in the Weston Police Department's Field Training Program. Through the program, Gribbons will work with a veteran officer in the Weston Police Department to receive training specific to the department. Check out the Weston …
