Let's face it: August is the end of the year.
1. At its meeting Aug. 28, the Weston Board of Selectmen set Monday, Nov. 26, as its date for special Town Meeting. 2. There was a crash on the Mass Pike yesterday which involved a state trooper. We will try to get more details today. 3. Let's face it: the end of August is the last month of the year around these parts, right? 4. The state primary election is Sept. 6. 5. And the kids are back in school Sept. 5.

The Weston Public Schools welcome 15 new faculty for the upcoming school year.
There will be 15 new faces throughout the Weston Public School system this fall. The Weston Public Schools website features a list of new faculty members. There are seven new faculty members in the elementary schools, including a new principal at Woodland, Cindy Crimmin. The high school and middle school will welcome six new faculty members, and the schools additionally got a new assistant director and director of student services. Full bios for each are published at the school’s site. School starts for all students Sept. 5.

School's almost back in session, but were you aware of these state laws on school buses?
Most Weston students know the "Rules of the Bus," but here are a few Massachusetts' state laws about school buses you might not have known. #1. Everyone knows to stop when a school bus is loading and unloading passengers, but what you may not know is that if you don’t stop, you could get a ticket of up to $250. That fine can go up to $2,000 and a suspended license of up to a year for subsequent offenses (MGL 90-14) #2. Oh, speaking of stopping behind a stopped bus, even fire trucks, police cars and ambulances with their sirens on have to stop until the passengers have been loaded or unloaded. (MGL 89-7B) #3. Tell your kids to sit down, because bus drivers can be fined up to $500 if they drive the bus when the kids aren’t sitting down, …

Kids across the country are heading back to school, so here is a reminder for motorists to be extra careful on the roads.

1. Friday is the last day to register to vote for the Sept. 6 state primary election in Weston. 2. The Board of Health said via the town's website West Nile Virus has been found in certain standing water pools in Wayland and Framingham. 3.
