TELL US: Should Licensed Gun Owners' Information be Public?

If you are licensed to own a gun, do you care if your name and address are publicized?

A news publication in New York is under scrutiny for publishing the names and addresses of gun owners in certain parts of the state.   Less than two weeks after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn., the New York Journal News earlier this week published the names and addresses of local gun owners in three New York counties.   A story titled, "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood," highlights the names and addresses of residents who are licensed to own handguns. The information was obtained through Freedom of Information Law requests, according to The Huffington Post.  The Journal News reportedly requested the information from New York's Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, though the …

Superintendent: Weston Schools Locking Additional Doors, Upping Police Presence

Weston Public Schools Superintendent Cheryl Maloney reached out to parents before school on Monday with further reaction to the Newtown shootings.

Superintendent Cheryl Maloney circulated the message below via the Weston listserv. Dear Weston Families, As we open our schools for the week following the tragedy in Newtown, we want to reassure you and your children that safety is paramount  and we are taking every precaution. Superintendent Offers Resources for Parents in Wake of Newtown Shooting

Superintendent Cheryl Maloney circulated several links with information about helping children cope with tragedy and encouraged parents to "give your children a hug no matter how old they are."

Weston Public Schools Superintendent Cheryl Maloney has already informed parents that Weston Public Schools have clear safety and security policies that will be reviewed in the light of the Newtown, Conn., shooting. In a second email, Maloney encourages parents to "Please give your children a hug no matter how old they are," and she offers links to articles about helping children cope with tragedy. 26, Gunman Dead in Connecticut School Shooting

Local and state police in Newtown, Conn. were called to an elementary school at about 9:30 this morning after a gunman allegedly opened fire at the school.

  NEWTOWN, CT -- Connecticut police said Friday afternoon that 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at an elementary school after a gunman opened fire. Another adult was killed at a second location.   The Scene Police in Newtown were called to the Sandy Hook School at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call Friday morning. Authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the school. He was reportedly armed with four guns and a high-powered assault rifle. Authorities said during a press conference that they have retrieved three weapons from the scene. Weston Superintendent: Resources Available, Procedures To Be Reviewed in Wake fo CT Shooting

Superintendent Cheryl Maloney reached out to parents in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.

In the wake of the horrific news of an elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. today, Weston Superintendent Cheryl Maloney is offering support and reassurance for parents.  In a message sent via Weston Grapevine this afternoon, Maloney assured families that Weston administrators and faculty review safety and security procedures each fall and that Weston's emergency officials are well apprised of those procedures. Maloney added that principals will be reviewing those procedures with staff and faculty in light of the Newtown tragedy. She also said that materials will be provided to faculty in order to help them answer student questions that could arise Monday.
