Which were the best Super Bowl commercials of 2013? Which were the worst?
Millions of sports enthusiasts around the world and in Weston watched Super Bowl 47 on Sunday. Likely, many tuned in just to watch Super Bowl commercials, just like they do every year. According to Ad Age, CBS essentially sold out its ad inventory for Super Bowl XLVII at prices averaging between $3.7 million and $3.8 million. The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers are Super Bowl-bound.
If you're a New England fan, you still might be shaking your head following the Patriots loss Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens in the American Football Conference championship game. With the win, the Ravens advance to Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 and take on the National Football Conference champ San Francisco 49ers. Those of you who aren't Patriots fans, are you glad Tom Brady's days under center are over for the season? Who will you root for on Sunday, Feb. 3? Bud Bowl, Mean Joe Greene, the Bud frogs ... what do you think is the best ad ever to air during the NFL title game?
It's been the game within the game. The hottest topic other than what team won and why. And this year should be no different. Commercials during the Super Bowl tend to keep football-crazed fans glued to their TVs during timeouts. Not so much for the product, but for the genius writing and creativity. The hype really started with Coco-Cola's ad featuring Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Mean Joe Greene tossing his grimy game shirt to a young fan in 1980. Since then, we've been enthralled with talking frogs, animated beer bottles, the Big Brother-type ad when Apple announced the release of the Macintosh, and others. You've got less than two weeks to prepare for the rematch between the Patriots and Giants.
I have to admit I've got it pretty good. My wife, Lesley, is not much of a football fan, but she loves to cook football food. We hosted a small party for the Patriots/Broncos playoff game the other week, and her recipes were as big of a hit as was the game. Over the years she's cooked some great appetizers, so I figured this would be a good time to put a handful together and share them with you.
