PHOTOS: Wayland-Weston Youth Football Receives Gift At Stop & Shop Party

The newest Stop & Shop near Weston welcomed its customers in grand opening fashion Thursday night with a party and several presentations, including one to Wayland-Weston Youth Football.

There wasn't much shopping going on, but there was plenty of mingling, eating, drinking and music during Stop & Shop's grand opening party at its Wayland location on Thursday night. General Manager Mike Bussell presented checks to Wayland-Weston Youth Football and Parmenter Food Bank, citing Stop & Shop's commitment to partnering with local organizations and charities. "This is a great donation for our program," said Shawn Fennelly, president of Wayland-Weston Youth Football. "It allows us to offer scholarships and keep costs down." Bussell also recognized Cynthia and David Hill for their work in organizing a massive donations drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Breezy Point, N.Y. PHOTOS: Donations from Weston Residents, Others Now Headed to Breezy Point

Wayland fire and police personnel escorted the trucks out of the Stop & Shop parking lot as Stop & Shop employees, residents and others waved and offered well wishes.

Under a drizzly, gray Tuesday morning sky, two tractor-trailers full of donations for victims of Hurricane Sandy departed the parking lot of the Wayland Town Center Stop & Shop with a fire and police escort. The two Stop & Shop-donated trucks are headed to Breezy Point, N.Y., a section of Queens that suffered catastrophic damage when Superstorm Sandy blew ashore on Oct. 29. Wayland resident Cynthia Hill, along with her husband David, started last week organizing a massive donation effort specifically for the people of Breezy Point. "How often in life do you really get a chance to make this kind of difference?" Cynthia Hill asked.
