How Does Your Tax Bill Compare to Those in Towns Similar to Weston

You've seen the tax rates, now take a look at what that means for the average bill and how all of this compares to Weston's similar towns.

By now you've probably seen your first tax bill of 2013. You've seen the rate of $12.40 per $1,000 of assessed value, and you've possibly even taken a look at how that rate compares to some other towns. And while the list of tax rates is interesting, a couple of readers have posed the question of how Weston's tax bills actually will compare to some other towns when the rate and the average home value are figured in. Weston's Finance Committee does not have an official set of peer towns that it looks to for a relative comparison when it comes to policy and budget. 2013 Tax Rates: How Does Weston Compare?

Weston's residential tax rate is relatively low compared to other municipalities nearby.

As 2013 begins, property tax rates are increasing for residents across Massachusetts, including in Weston — so how does that compare to surrounding communities? Out of 19 communities in the area, Weston's 2013 residential tax rate lands among the lower rates, according to rates compiled by Patch through the state Department of Revenue's Division of Local Services. The Weston Board of Selectmen voted on the 2013 rate at a tax classification hearing last month. The residential and commercial/industrial rate is $12.40 per $1,000 of assessed value. With Weston's average home assessment of about $1.3 million, that means the average tax bill will come in at about $16,000.
