The Weston Board of Selectmen will convene tonight at 6:30 p.m.
The Weston Board of Selectmen will gather Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Conference Room at Weston Town Hall. The first order of business on the agenda is to consider calling a special town meeting for June 17. Selectmen anticipate taking a vote. At 6:35 p.m., selectmen plan to consider the board's position on a number of articles in the Warrant for the upcoming Annual Town Meeting. Discussion and a vote on articles 12-18 is anticipated. The Conservation Commission met with Weston Selectmen Wednesday night to talk about the town's 2012 Deer Management Program as well as its future.
It takes a high-tension topic for the phrases "deer slobber" and "bloody slaughter" to come up under the same agenda item at a Weston Board of Selectmen meeting. But the town's 2012 Deer Management Program, which allowed bow hunting on five of Weston's conservation lands, is just such a topic. Wednesday night, nearly every seat was filled in the first floor conference room at Weston Town Hall by the time Weston Conservation Administrator Michele Grzenda began her presentation. The Conservation Commission and Board of Selectmen will review the 2012 Deer Program tonight and discuss plans for 2013. The 2012 deer management program report is available online.
Bow hunters had access to five conservation areas in Weston during last fall's hunting season as part of a deer management program agreed to by the Conservation Commission and Board of Selectmen. According to the 2012 Deer Management Program Summary, the program was implemented after residents wrote letters in recent years urging the Conservation Commission and selectmen to "look into the problem of too many deer." Deadlines are approaching for candidates to express their interest in filling a couple of open positions on town committees.
Weston residents interested in getting involved in town service have a couple of options for jumping into the world of civic service. The Weston Board of Selectmen has extended the deadline for individuals to nominate themselves to serve on the newly formed Town Meeting Advisory Committee. Anyone interested in serving on the committee should send a letter of interest with background information by Friday, March 15 to selectmen@westonmass.org or by mail to the Board of Selectmen, P.O. Board, residents weigh pros and cons of controversial proposed roundabout.
The ongoing discussion about whether to build a roundabout at Case's Corner reached the next stage at the Monday, Feb. 27 Board of Selectmen meeting, where abutters and other residents gathered to hear further information, and weigh in on the controversial proposal. Some 30 attendees packed the lower level conference room at Weston Town Hall, and mainly expressed discontent at the proposal, saying the high-traffic time at the intersection is mainly limited to morning commuting hours and doesn’t merit the expense of a roundabout, among other objections. Warrant articles, Cultural Council appointments and new committee among items discussed at recent meeting.
At Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting at Town Hall, selectman Michael Harrity gave an update about the Case Estates soil remediation negotiations, telling attendees that progress is stalled pending further review by Harvard University, which owns the 62.5-acre parcel. I did not call all animal rights activists terrorists I just stated that some are in this country. I am sure that you are not one. Just because a person is standing in the woods with hunting gear on does not mean they are hunting. A hunter can walk along a road or next to a house as long as he does not discharge a weapon.
