Weston High School Student Wins Statewide Math, Science Achievement Award

Sixteen-year-old senior Weston's first to win prestigious award.

A Weston High School student was recently named a winner of a prestigious award in science and mathematics, the only Weston student ever to be given the award. Grace Huckins, a 16-year-old senior, was named a winner of the Siemens award, a signature program of the Siemens Foundation administered by the College Board that recognizes the country’s top achievers in Advanced Placement Program (AP) science and mathematics courses. According to a press release from Siemens, the award is given to one male and one female student in each state and comes with a $2000 scholarship. This year, 101 high school students in 50 states, including 96 seniors, 4 juniors and 1 sophomore, were recognized. Huckins said though she was aware of the award, she had…

Weston Faces Shrewsbury in High School Quiz Show

Teams square off in opening round at WGBH studios Sunday afternoon; Weston superintendent, WHS principal among supporters in audience.

And the winner of the Weston High School vs. Shrewsbury High School Quiz Show is… confidential information until April. But it’s safe to say that both teams made their schools and towns proud. The teams faced off Sunday afternoon at the WGBH-TV studios in Brighton, the last of a weekend of eight tapings between the 16 qualifying Massachusetts high school teams of the single-elimination game show. Representing Weston were junior Will Gertler; seniors Grace Huckins, James Dana and Matthew Chernick; and alternates Natasha Joglekar, a freshman, and sophomore Pravina Samaratunga. Weston High School Quiz Show Team to Compete This Weekend

Weston residents encouraged to attend taping.

Weston High School will compete with Shrewsbury High School in High School Quiz Show on Sunday afternoon, with the team expected to arrive at 2:45 p.m. and taping to begin at 3:45 p.m. All shows are taped in front of a live audience at WGBH Studios on 1 Guest St., Brighton, and supporters are encouraged to be part of the live audience that day. Interested Weston residents can register at highschoolquizshow.org. Winners of these rounds will move on to quarter and semifinal rounds. All episodes premiere Sundays at 6:30 p.m. (repeating Saturdays at 6 p.m,) on WGBH 2, with the episode featuring WHS expected to air on April 1. Weston High School to Compete with Shrewsbury in High School Quiz Show

Tapings for show to begin later in January, with Weston vs. Shrewsbury to air April 1.

High School Quiz Show, WGBH’s Emmy-Award winning fast-paced academic game show, today announced the 2012 tournament bracket for the 16 Massachusetts public high school academic teams, which will include Weston, competing on season three of the show. Weston High to Compete on 'Quiz Show' Again

The WHS team returns in the show's third season.

The team from Weston High School has once again earned the right to be on "High School Quiz Show," an academic game show produced and broadcasted by WGBH. The students took part in "Super Sunday," on Oct. 30, taking a 100-question oral quiz; teams with the best scores were selected to compete on the game show for this season. WHS is one of 16 teams that will compete. Other high schools competing include Arlington, Belmont, Lexington and Lincoln-Sudbury. See a complete list on the show's Facebook page.
