Wayward Bear Spotted in Weston

A black bear was spotted in Weston on the morning of Monday, May 20.

Police are urging residents in Weston and Lincoln to be on the lookout for a wayward black bear spotted on Sunday on Monday in both towns, according to the Boston Globe. The bear was reported to be in the area of Route 117 and Route 126 on Sunday, May 19. On the morning of May 20, Weston Police also received reports of 100-plus pound bear in the northern section of town. The bear was also spotted on a railroad bed that runs from Waltham to Lincoln. A Weston Police officer speculated the bear was looking for food. The bear, if it is a male, could have been forced out of its home by an older female bear and it may be attempting to find its own territory, according to the Globe. Services rendered. 3 p.m. -- Burglary on North Avenue.  11:46 p.m. -- Gregory Carlson, 30, of Weston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (fourth offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene after property damage, a marked lanes violation and speeding. He was allegedly involved in a crash and left the scene. Police Investigating String of Weston Car Break-Ins

Cars were also broken into in Wayland the same night.

  Weston police are investigating a series of car break-ins that occurred late last week, as Wayland police are also investigating a string of car break-ins that happened the same night.  A total of five break-ins are being investigated in Weston, occurring the night of Wednesday, March 27 into the morning of Thursday, March 28.  The break-ins happened on Highland Street, Golden Ball Road, Irving Street and Boston Post Road.  Wayland police are investigating car break-ins on Boston Post Road, Melody Lane, Morse Road and Springhill Road, during the same time frame. Items stolen there included GPS units, sunglasses, cash and cameras.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Weston or Wayland police.

Police Receive Active Shooter Training at Weston's Schools

Training was held at a Weston elementary school during February break.

The idea began to take shape after Columbine, and Newtown made it even more apparent. Police officers need training in school-shooting situations, and they need it now, local police officials say. Which is why Woodland Elementary School was abuzz with activity during a recent school break. While students were on vacation, Feb. 18 to 22, Weston police officers were at the school, taking part in Active Shooter Training — learning how best to respond if someone were to show up at a Weston school with an intent to kill. “After Newtown there was more of an urgency — instead of sitting around and talking about it (Active Shooter Training), we really needed to get it done,” Weston Lt.
