As the annual dog license deadline approaches, we're taking a look at how many pooches call Weston home.
With the 2013 deadline to license Weston's dogs just days away, it seems there are several fewer pooches in town this year than last. According to Weston Town Clerk Deborah Davenport, her office had licensed 847 dogs as of Tuesday morning, just a week before the April 30, 2013 deadline for all dogs in town to be licensed. That number represents more than 120 fewer pooches than the town licensed in 2012 when it issued 970 licenses, Davenport said. Each year, state law requires that all dog owners obtain licenses for each dog over 6 months old in their household. It's that time of year ... time to make sure Fido (or Fifi) is fully licensed in Weston.
By the end of the month, you're going to need to have your canine companion up-to-date on shots and fully registered in the Town of Weston. Weston requires that all dogs be registered by April 30 of each year; the registration period covers Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of each year. The process itself is fairly simple: 1. Make sure your dog is current on its rabies vaccination. 2. File proof of vaccination with the Weston town clerk's office. Want to vote in the Sept. 6 state primary? Register to vote by Friday, Aug. 17.
The state primary on Thursday, Sept. 6, is creeping up, and those Weston residents who haven't registered to vote yet and wish to take part in the primary should register to vote this week. The deadline to register to vote in advance of the state primary is Friday, Aug. 17, according to the town's website. The Weston Town Clerk's office will be open Friday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for those who need to register. Mail-In Registration forms are also available at Town Hall, and must be postmarked by Aug. 17, at midnight. Register by Friday to take part in Special Town Meeting.
If you're a Weston resident who isn't registered to vote yet, your last chance to do so before Special Town Meeting and Town Meeting is Friday, April 27, according to the Town Clerk's office. Registration can be completed at the Town Clerk's office, which will be open on April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mail-in registrations will also be accepted, but should be postmarked before midnight on April 27. Mail-in forms are available at Town Hall. Special Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m., followed by Town Meeting at 7:45 p.m. Questions? Want to vote in the May 5 town election? Register by Friday.
With town election coming up on May 5, those who aren't yet registered to vote can do so through Friday, April 13, in order to take part in that election. According to a press release from the Town Clerk's office, voter registration can be made at the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall, or by mail. Mail-in forms are available at the Town Clerk's office, and must be postmarked by April 13. Weston residents may also request absentee ballots from the Town Clerk's office. Absentee Ballot applications can also be obtained from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Elections Division, with absentee voting expiring on May 4 at noon.
